Lifting training
Reach Truck Training Pietermaritzburg – TETA Accredited | Abethu Skills Development Center
A standard forklift certificate doesn't automatically qualify you to operate a reach truck. The extended mast, narrow-aisle design, and elevated load handling require a specific, separate skillset — and employers know the difference. If you need a reach truck operator certificate in Pietermaritzburg, Abethu Skills has the course for you.
Our five-day reach truck training course is hands-on, practically focused, and aligned to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. It's been getting operators in KwaZulu-Natal certified for over a decade.
What the Reach Truck Course Covers
The programme starts with fundamentals: how a reach truck functions, its load capacity ratings, mast mechanics, and the stability triangle. From there, trainees move through pre-operation inspection procedures — hydraulics, tyres, forks, and safety systems before every shift. This isn’t a formality. An operator who skips a pre-op check is an operator waiting to report an incident.
Practical sessions take up the bulk of the course. You’ll work through narrow-aisle operation, load picking at height, racking approaches, and emergency procedures — on actual equipment, in conditions that reflect what you’ll encounter on a real warehouse floor.
New Operators and Renewal
New operators are welcome. The course starts from first principles, so no prior reach truck experience is required — though some familiarity with warehouse environments is helpful.
Experienced operators who’ve been operating informally without formal certification also come through our doors regularly. Under the OHS Act, that’s a compliance issue for both the operator and the employer. Getting certified closes that gap.
Renewal training is available for operators whose certificates are lapsing, at a reduced fee. Don’t wait until an inspection flags an issue.
Our instructors come from industry. They've operated reach trucks in actual warehouse environments, and they teach accordingly — with practical focus from day one, not three days of slides before you touch a machine.
Our training meets South African legislative requirements and the relevant SETA frameworks. When your operator leaves with an Abethu Skills certificate, it holds up to scrutiny from employers and labour inspectors alike.
